Heat Stress Awareness Session Held in Collaboration with Shaam Hospital

Gulf Cement Company organised a Heat Stress Awareness session for employees on 15 July 2026, delivered in collaboration with Shaam Hospital under Emirates Health Services, as part of the company's summer safety programme.

The session was held at the plant and brought together workers from across operational departments. Medical professionals from Shaam Hospital led the briefing, covering the physiology of heat stress, the importance of consistent hydration throughout the working day, and the early warning signs of heat-related illness — the symptoms that, recognised early, allow intervention before a situation becomes serious.

Practical guidance formed the core of the session. Attendees were taken through safe working practices for high-temperature conditions, including hydration routines, the correct use of rest periods and shaded areas, the role of appropriate protective clothing, and the procedure for responding when a colleague shows signs of heat exhaustion. Employees were encouraged to look out for one another during the hottest months, when the risk is highest and the earliest signs are often noticed by a co-worker rather than the affected person.

Summer conditions in the UAE place real demands on anyone working outdoors or in high-temperature industrial environments. Heat stress is a recognised occupational hazard in the cement industry, and managing it requires a combination of engineering controls, work scheduling, and — critically — a workforce that understands the risk and knows how to respond.

Gulf Cement Company extends its thanks to Shaam Hospital and Emirates Health Services for their partnership in delivering the session, and to every employee who attended.

Sessions of this kind form part of a continuing health and safety programme at Gulf Cement Company, alongside induction training, ongoing toolbox talks, and regular health screening for the workforce. Safety remains a core value of the company and of the wider Buzzi group.
